ICT in Education Conference 2014

I

May is now well and truly upon us and it is going to be a busy month for Ed Tech enthusiasts in Ireland, with no less than three conferences taking place, two TeachMeets, and the opening days of the month seeing the conclusion of Tech Week 2014 and Digital Art Week 2014. We will preview some of the conferences taking place later in the month at a later date, and for now turn our attention to the ICT in Education Conference 2014 which takes place in Thurles on Saturday (May 10th).

The theme for this year’s ICT in Education conference is Global Voices in Education, and sees the annual conference celebrate the important milestone of its tenth anniversary. As ever, the conference will provide a forum for educators from the three levels of our education system. It will showcase case studies, workshops and keynote addresses to amplify effective methods that teachers, lecturers and practitioners have used to enhance the resonance and reach of their own best practice and to energise student voices in creative classrooms and online activities.

Keynote speakers this year are Helen Keegan (@heloukee – UK National Teaching Fellow and Senior Lecturer and researcher at the University of Salford), Evelyn O’Connor (@evelynoconnor – Teacher of the Year 2012 and author of the popular leavingcertenglish.net site), Julie Cullen (@cullej29 – Irish Ambassador of @codeweekeu and Young Advisor to Neelie Kroes, VP of the European Commission) and Stephen Howell (@saorog – Academic Engagement Manager for Microsoft Ireland). The full programme for the day can be viewed at http://www.lit.ie/Tipperary/Schools/Speakers/default.aspx

The conference will be preceded by a TeachMeet (in association with CESI) which will take place at the LIT Tipperary Thurles campus on Friday evening (May 9th) and will run from 7pm to 9pm. Further details about this TeachMeet are available here.
