The www.coolkidsstudio.com website was created by Lauren Boyle, who is 9 years old, as a fun interactive way of teaching life skills to children up to the age of 12 years. The site teaches children life skills through games, suggestions, role playing ideas, and links. The site is divided into three age categories: age 3-6, 7-10 and 11-12. Topics include what to do on a rainy day, how to deal with bullies, videos on bullying, making friends, meditation links, and many useful suggestions and videos on life skills. The website is also a useful resource for parents and educators.
The site was designed, created and coded by Lauren. It is a site created by a child for children. It is colourful, easy to navigate, and the language used is child friendly as it is written by a nine year old. Lauren won the Coderdojo Coolest Project Award last year in the Scratch Category and went on to get runner up prize this year for coolkidsstudio.com at the same awards. Lauren is meeting Minister Ciaran Cannon next week hoping to discuss her website along with technology and learning. Lauren’s website is just live 3 weeks and already she has received over 1,500 hits.
