This presentation will outline how technology is being utilised within a third level accounting module to offer students an innovative and interactive learning experience. There is great potential to utilise technology to change accounting education to the greater benefit of the diverse learners in our classrooms. This study proposes to investigate if delivering education in a language that students understand would increase student engagement and motivation and result in students taking greater responsibility for their own learning. The presentation will specifically focus on the pedagogical theories underpinning the blended learning approach employed in the study.
I am an accounting lecturer in Athlone Institute of Technology and am currently undertaking a PhD programme in the school of education, NUIG. Due to my keen interest in the use of technology to promote learning, I have introduced blended learning as a course delivery method in teaching introductory accounting to first-year degree students as part of my PhD studies.
