Technology to Empower Student-Led Learning

Story – This presentation is on the Learnovate Centre’s creation of curricular support applications to drive student-led classroom learning opportunities. It outlines the construction of technology demonstrators as non-activity specific apps that fit within, support and enhance the authentic classroom dynamic and the student’s place within it. Additionally, the presentation will look at how technology can assist student-led classroom learning while enriching teacher instruction. A demonstration of a classroom based 21st century skill app as well as a personalised content mashup tool will be given.

Presenter Biography:

Kathy works as a Pedagogical Researcher for Learnovate Centre and holds a PhD in Education and an MEd. Kathy’s research area is in student-lead learning and the educative relationship. Learnovate Centre is associated with the School of Computer Science and Statistics at TCD and other Irish universities and is an industry-led centre for innovation and research in school and corporate learning technologies. Funded by Enterprise Ireland in partnership with IDA Ireland, Learnovate Centre partners with schools to trial technology demonstrators and provide student and teachers with next-practice learning and teaching opportunities.
