MineCrafty – Tips for using Minecraft EDU for project based learning

In this hands on session we’ll give examples of how we have used Minecraft in our classrooms to promote project based learning. We’ll also discus how using Minecraft has helped bridge the gap for some of our SEN students. Participants will be shown some of the new features of Minecraft EDU and be given examples of project based lesson plans to fit the Irish curriculum. For those new to Minecraft you’ll also get a chance to create your first ‘build’.

Presenter Biography:

Sinead Herlihy M.Ed, SEN Teacher in a DEIS Boys Primary Co.Cork. Tony Riley SEN Teacher, Lacken Primary School, Cavan. Both use digital story-telling/film-making to inspire and engage pupils who struggle to learn in the conventional classroom environment. Their pupils use a wide variety of ICT resources including: MinecraftEDU, Khanacademy, Scratch, Lego Wedo, GAFE and Web 2.0 tools. Sinead has been a tutor for the PDST-Technology in Education for a number of years.

Tony Riley was a member of a U.S. State Department funded professional exchange program “Games, Apps and Entertainment in STEM Education” which explored ways in which technology can be more effectively used in classrooms.
