Khan Academy & MATHletes Challenge: innovative tools for blended learning

Story – The goal of this session is to share learnings from the MATHletes Challenge and discuss innovative ways that Khan Academy is being implemented in Ireland to transform maths teaching and learning. Those who attend will gain hands-on training on using Khan Academy to build students’ competence, confidence, and engagement with maths. Great for those interested in gamefication strategies, STEM and blended learning implementations.

Presenter Biography:

Kelly is the coordinator for the MATHletes Challenge – the pioneering maths tournament for Irish primary and second level students using Khan Academy. She works with a team from the Excited Digital Learning movement, Education Centre directors, volunteers, teachers, parents and students to raise awareness of Khan Academy in Ireland. The MATHletes Challenge is supported by Irish-American technology entrepreneur Sean O’Sullivan, managing director of SOSventures Investments Ltd and Carma, and an original supporter of Khan Academy and CoderDojo.

Martina teaches in St Peter’s Primary, Bray. She took part in the Mathletes Challenge with her class last year and piloted the Early Maths content on Khan Academy with 2nd class this year. She blogs with her students at stpetersbrayblog.com and they tweet their adventures from @StPetersBray.
