Exploring the Pedagogy of Play-based Mathematics in Early Childhood Education

Presented by: Fran McKeagney and Dr Carol-Ann O'Síoráin

The Early Childhood Education (ECE) landscape is under constant scrutiny and a graduate lead workforce in ECE is now an expressed requirement. Providing continuous professional development for the current sector is proving challenging. A change mindset is needed by third-level institutions to raise the quality of the current and emerging qualified practitioner/pedagogue.

Hibernia College seeks to explore the possibility of engaging current ECE practitioners and new entrants in autonomous pedagogical learning via an online blended learning platform that challenges the pedagogue to explore and enhance their own mathematical concepts through game-based learning.
