Children learn at their optimum level when they are engaged and having fun. Having worked in resource for a number of years I have used technology to both motivate and engage children. The iPad has opened up a world of possibilities for the children I work with and I have seen the greatest gains in the area of speech and language development through the use of carefully selected apps. I use both content generating apps and content consuming apps during lessons. The apps provide the context for the learning, language and interaction that take place between myself and the children. In my presentation I will talk to you about the apps that I have used and show you examples of the benefits of using these apps.

Maggie is a primary school teacher from Donegal currently working as a resource teacher in Letterkenny Educate Together National School. She is addicted to continuous professional development and has a particular interest in the areas of special educational needs and ICT in education.
