* Use of coding and computational thinking activities to enhance and support lessons in the PE curriculum – utilising tools such as Beebots and Bebras activities to improve co-operation and problem solving
* Use of QR codes for station teaching in PE – utilising the fundamental movement videos available on Scoilent.ie to teach a movement/activity at each station to support physical literacy learning
*Use of an ePortfolio tool to allow pupils to document their activities in PE/physical literacy – exploration of an ePortfolio tool to improve and enhance reflection of the processes involved in a lesson
The Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) Digital Technologies team promotes the embedding of digital technologies in teaching, learning and assessment in both primary and post-primary schools in Ireland. The PDST is the country’s largest single support service offering professional learning opportunities to teachers and school leaders in a range of pedagogical, curricular and educational areas.
Presenter Biography:
Ciara Reilly is an advisor on the PDST Digital Technologies team, on secondment from St. Peter’s Primary, Bray, Co. Wicklow. She is also a part-time lecturer in Creative Technologies in the Marino Institute of Education. She holds a BCL degree from UCD Dublin, a HDipPrim from the Marino Institute of Education and an MEd in Literacy Practice from DCU. A co-founder of Teachmeet Ireland, Ciara has presented at the CESI Conference, Féilte, INTO Education Conference and the IPPN Principals’ conference on a number of occasions.
John is a primary school teacher who has worked in SCOIL Ghrainne CNS for the past 7 years. John Meegan is currently in his third year of a part-time PhD in Education with the NUI Maynooth, under the supervision of Dr Grace O’Grady. John holds a BSc in IT&T, an MA in E-Learning Design and Development, a H-Dip in Primary Education and a post-grad in Educational Management. He is currently out on full-time secondment with the PDST and is working as an advisor with the Digital Technologies team. John presented at the 2018 International Narrative Conference in Sligo IT and will also present at this year’s Narrative Conference in Trinity College.
