BETT 2018 – Think about going

For those who do not know, BETT is an annual technology in education exhibition that takes place in London, usually at the end of January in the Excel arena.  It brings together the large and small of the tech in ed sector – hardware, software, management systems and everything in between.  Teachers get an opportunity to ask direct questions to the companies who offer their product to schools.  The BETT arena hosts talks for each of the four days of the event, delivered by big names from diverse sectors.  In other locations within the main hall smaller, niche interest talks are given.

Why you may well ask is this of any interest to me as I prepare my class plans for the coming week. Well, I have attended for many years and my answer is that if you are interested in pedagogy and technology this is where these spaces meet and is worth at least one visit.  Teachers come from all over Europe to attend.  It is CPD – learning about all that is new in one place.  The list of exhibitors is staggering but a bit of pre-planning makes it very worthwhile

But I’m in Ireland, I hear you say!!!  Entry to BETT is FREE! Registration is already open for BETT  2018 so you know the dates. Early flight booking keeps costs significantly down.  Teachers have traveled over and back on a Saturday, tired but better informed and with information for their colleagues.  Financial support could be sought from school management – you don’t know until you try. It is something to visit at least once.
