Presented by: Frank Ó Tormaigh
For this session I propose to use the Lego Innovation Studio in DCU / St. Patrick’s College to demonstrate to primary teachers how they can use Lego We Do 2.0 materials to develop Computational Thinking skills such as abstraction, decomposition, problem solving, coding and collaboration.
The session will involve a short presentation followed by a hands on workshop where teachers will get a chance to build and programme a robot using the Lego materials and iPads. Working in pairs the participants will see how practical the materials are and also get an experience in coding. All materials, including iPads, will be made available for participants.
I am a 4th class teacher and assistant principal in Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada in Lucan Co. Dublin. After completing my M .Ed in Digital Learning in 2017 I was tasked with the development and maintenance of ICT and Digital Learning in my school. I have used Lego We Do to present at various conferences around the country, including ICTEDU 2017, Gaeloideachas 2017 and the Teacher’s Research Conference in St. Pat’s 2017.
