Online Applications for Slideshows and Movies

Presented by:
Enda Donlon

As the capabilities of online Web 2.0 applications have increased significantly in recent times, some of the most powerful tools to emerge are those which allow users to create online digital slideshows and short videos using very simple interfaces and tools. These online applications offer a number of advantages, including the fact that they do not require any specialised software to be installed on a user's PC, that they are cross-platform  (i.e: can be accessed from Windows, Mac and Linux machines) and that they allow for easy publishing of the finished product to school websites, class blogs, VLEs, etc. These digital productions can contain images, titles, text, short video clips and a soundtrack. This presentation will focus mainly upon two applications, demonstrating them briefly and highlighting the advantages of each for particular types of project, while exploring the educational potential for such an approach. These applications are cost-free, accessible through the Schools Broadband Network, easy to use and above all, allow for the creation of impressive projects without needing a knowledge of complicated software and procedures.
