National Rollout of Scratch
In September 2009 Lero – the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre, CIO Ireland and IT Tallaght teamed up with the Irish Computer Society to distribute a brand new exciting transition year module to all secondary schools in the country. The materials “Having Fun with Computer Programming and Games” use Scratch, a free software tool developed by the MIT Media Lab to teach programming concepts. For more information about the materials see http://www.scratch.ie This presentation will discuss how we went from pilot project to national rollout. We will talk about uptake at the national level and the Scratch competition. Two teachers will talk about their experience teaching Scratch and their plans for the Scratch competition.
