What’s the story Alice?: Making animated Movies using a cross curricular Computer Programming Tool

Storytelling Alice is a software program that uses computer programming as a means to tell a story. It uses a drag and drop interface to allow the user to create a simple animated 3D movies. Originally designed to motivate middle school girls (12-14) to learn to program computers, it is a free and open source object oriented educational programming language.
This presentation intends to address the following:
- A reflection of this teachers experience using Storytelling Alice with a 1st year computer studies class.
- A guided tour of the Alice interface including the creation of an animation.
- Suggestions for how Storytelling Alice might be used to enhance the learning experience within other subject areas.
Presenter Bio:
Jessie Byrne teaches computer studies and geography at second level. She is an ICT-in-education enthusiast (especially when the software is free!).
