FÓN Project - focused on the Teaching of Gaeilge at Post-Primary

The FÓN Project involves the use of mobile phones and web-based text chat on networked computers to help teachers and their second year students in teaching and learning Irish. The main aim of the project is to promote the use of Irish for communicative purposes. This project is a cross-border project, with a total of 420 students participating with their fourteen teachers across six schools.

Presenter Bio: 

Katrina Keogh is an education officer with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA). Her areas of work at NCCA including the Mobile-Assisted Language Learning Project, ACTION website, English as an additional language, modern languages at primary level and Primary Curriculum Review. Katrina has a B.Sc. in Applied Computational Linguistics and taught German at primary level for over five years. She is currently completing her Ph.D. thesis in the area of Intelligent Computer-Assisted Language Learning.

Judith Ní Mhurchú is an Education Officer for Gaeilge with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA). She has been a teacher of Irish for 13 years. Judith has an M.Ed. in Innovative Teaching and Learning and she is involved with the Education Department in NUIM as a lecturer in Irish language methodology.
