Static vs Dynamic: The Content Management approach to Web Publishing for Education

Content Management Systems allow one to prepare and publish information online, without needing an in-depth knowledge of web authoring software and techniques. This presentation aims to explore the potential benefits of Content Management as an approach to publishing web content, with a specific focus on school websites. It will explore how Content Management Systems work, discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of Content Management over the more traditional model of static page construction and publishing, and explore briefly a number of open-source CMS packages and the features they might offer to school web-based projects.

Presenter Bio: 

Enda Donlon is a lecturer in Educational Technology at the Mater Dei Institute of Education, Drumcondra, where he teaches a number of modules to pre-service student-teachers and postgraduate students on the use of ICT in teaching and learning.
